Children

American Family Martial Arts offers daily classes for children ages 4 1/2 and older. Our classes emphasize family values, respect, and character development. We teach self defense skills in a fun and safe environment.

“This is the most incredible studio, more than just people to train with, it is a real family. It is a wonderful place for students of all ages…” – Nicole O

Youth/Teens

Exciting training and special events encourage cameraderie and self-esteem. Youth ages 11-18 train with peers in a challenging and rigorous environment at an individual pace. We focus on building character and supporting and mentoring others.

I’ve been training with American Family Martial Arts for over 12 years since I was 8, and I can honestly say that it has changed my life. From when I first entered the studio, I was hooked. -Andrew R

Adult

Adults strengthen their bodies and minds in a challenging environment. We offer classes for adults 5 days per week for your convenience.

American Family Martial arts is a fun, supportive, and engaging community. I’ve been training since I was in elementary school, and even though I’m now away at college, I still look forward to visiting every time I’m home. -Amanda R

Family

Family class gives the opportunity for children and parents to train together in addition to their individualized training groups. This allows families to bond and reinforces the tenets not only in the studio, but also at home.

“I have really enjoyed the time we have spent at your studio.  It is a wonderful place for families and I really appreciate your commitment to the principles of Tae Kwon Do while still accepting individuals for who they are and life’s circumstances.  It a balancing act that you do very well. ” – Linda O and 3 children

American Family Martial arts is a fun, supportive, and engaging community. I’ve been training since I was in elementary school, and even though I’m now away at college, I still look forward to visiting every time I’m home. The classes are wonderful for students of all ages, and I would highly recommend stopping by to watch or try a class if you’ve ever considered learning martial arts.

I don’t usually write reviews, but I am compelled to write a review for AFMA because I am so glad that I found this place. Six years ago, my friend and I checked out several martial arts studios in North County before we both decided that AFMA is the right place for our children. We have since confirmed that this studio is the best in the area. What I like most about this studio is that there is so much respect and support for each other. Miss Zeno, the head instructor, is loving and welcoming but at the same time she expects courtesy, respectfulness and high level of martial arts desciplines from her students…In addition to being a great place for children/teenagers, this studio is great for adults and parents as well. The family classes and adult classes are equally amazing. It is so cool when the teenagers courteously show us how to do those spin kicks in the air. I highly recommend AFMA for martial arts training for anyone in your family. It is never too old to start your quest for black belts. It will change your life.

This is the most incredible studio, more than just people to train with, it is a real family. It is a wonderful place for students of all ages. I have been training here for upwards of 11 years and can truly say it has been the most defining experience of my life. I met most of my best friends in this studio and would recommend it to anyone who wants to try martial arts! An absolutely wonderful experience, don’t miss out!

Andrew Ribner

New York University, Graduate Studies in Psychology | 3rd Degree Black Belt, Nationally Certified Instructor, 14 years

For years, I begged my parents to let me start training. A number of my friends were already training and would soon be testing for their Junior Black Belts, and I was to start years after them as a white belt. As is often the case, my parents were right. When I finally started at age 8, I dove in with a passion I had not demonstrated with any other sport. In a few short years, I passed my friends—many of whom had lost interest and moved onto other things—and had begun to make martial arts my life. Since then, the things I have learned from American Family Martial Arts have become central to everything I do: the tenets have become guiding principles that define me, and the techniques have become an exercise in fitness, self-discipline, and further training. Even my curricular interests in education and child development have been largely formed by my experience teaching and training at AFMA.

When I started training with Ms. Zeno at the age of eight, all I knew was that her classes were fun and that I wanted to break boards, kick pads, and compete at tournaments. I certainly did get to do all of these things, but it was the opportunities I didn’t know about when I started that have kept me training for more than twenty years. The experience of learning to focus and persevere to achieve goals has benefited me in all areas of life, from school work to professional endeavors. Classes focused on improving physical fitness and building character have equipped me with tools that I’ve reached for in situations as diverse as ensuring my personal safety to college entrance exams and the California state bar, and even mediating conflicts for clients. I would recommend Ms. Zeno’s school to anyone who wants to improve their self-esteem, patience, fitness, leadership abilities, and coordination while having a great time.
